Optimum oral health is as important as maintaining a beautiful-looking smile. However, it is easier said than done due to all the microbes in the mouth. Regular and holistic oral hygiene is one of the essential things to be followed in this regard. Along with it, dental treatments such as Fluoride treatment helps to strengthen the teeth and increase their resistance to cavity formation, decrease sensitivity on the roots of teeth, and helps strengthen weakened tooth structure, a process called remineralization of the tooth.
Fluoride Varnish increases the teeth’ immunity towards cavities and also makes them tough and strong. Fluoride is made available to us in the form of drinking water and the toothpaste we use to brush our teeth. In some instances where the required quantity isn’t received by the body, the teeth could become more susceptible to cavities.
Fluoride Varnish is extremely effective in children as well as in the adult population. It is extremely safe to use and plays a significant role in preventing early tooth decay.
How is fluoride varnish treatment carried out?
The dentist will examine your teeth and determine your candidacy for the treatment. The teeth will be cleaned thoroughly, and any tartar deposits adhered to them will be removed. A surface applicant that is rich in Fluoride will be applied on the teeth and spread evenly.
It will be allowed to stay on for a few minutes, during which the mineral penetrates the tooth tubules and fuses with the underlying tooth structure. It is recommended not to eat or drink for 30 minutes. It will feel sticky on the teeth, after a short while, it will be rinsed off, and the teeth will be cleaned. The procedure may be repeated according to each individual’s condition, for some it might be twice per year and others might be 3-4 times per year depends on many factors such as mouth dryness, cavity susceptibility, gum recession, and the amount of dental work done in the mouth
